On August 23, join CMEP’s Destiny Magnett for a guest sermon and post-worship conversation at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, DE.
First, in her sermon titled Fan Into Flame: Courageous Witness in Trying Times Destiny will explore the calls of 2 Timothy 1:3-14 both from the time in which Paul wrote this letter, and how we might hear its call to courage in the name of the gospel today. Join in-person or via livestream.
Then, after worship, join Destiny for: Faith in Action: Calls to Courage for Israel, Palestine, and the Broader Middle East. This conversation centers the question: How can Christians in the U.S. seek to faithfully bear witness and respond to the crises we see unfolding across the Holy Land today? Attendees will hear updates on the current realities on the ground across the Middle East, and how CMEP and its coalition partners have sought to respond here in the U.S. Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear the latest from CMEP and our partners spanning from Jerusalem to Washington, DC, engage in questions and conversation, and seek to reflect on the ways the Gospel calls us to stand with the oppressed. Destiny Magnett is the Programs and Outreach Manager at Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP) where she serves as the primary liaison for church partners, leads much of CMEP’s online and in-person programming, and co-leads the regional coordinator program. Destiny holds a Master of Theological Studies Degree and Religion & Public Life Certificate from Harvard Divinity School, where her work focused on decoloniality, religious ethics, peacebuilding, and religion in the public sphere. She also holds a B.A. in Religious Studies from Grinnell College. Prior to joining CMEP, Destiny has experience working at the intersection of religion and peacebuilding in a variety of spheres, including the Office of International Religious Freedom at the U.S. Department of State, Search for Common Ground– Jordan, Harvard’s Office of Religion and Public Life, and on the digital humanities project Mapping Islamophobia. Destiny’s writing has appeared in Baptist News Global, the New Lines Institute, ChristianZionism.org, The Christian Century, and more. While born and raised in Kansas, she is now based in the Boston area.
