As part of the And Still We Rise (ASWR) pre-summit events and on International Women’s Day, Churches for Middle East Peace is hosting the first in-person gathering for ASWR in 2024 titled Palestinian Woman Leaders and the Healing Journey at the Bethlehem Bible Collage. At this gathering, registration for the November ASWR summit will be open for the first time.
Due to the amount of death, detention, and attacks Palestinians have been witnessing since 7 October 2023, this gathering will seek to provide a space for a time of rest. We seek for this space to be one of positive, healing energy. Therefore, we will start with a short yoga session by Eilda Zaghmout to destress and energize, followed by a short video on Palestinian women in leadership roles. Our keynote speaker is Sandrine Hilal, an expert on trauma healing. We will end with a hymn and a short prayer from World Prayer Day. A coffee break will be offered. The event welcomes women of all ages and faith backgrounds.
If you would like to donate to the work of And Still We Rise, uniting women for peacebuilding and empowerment, we welcome you to give here.
A Churches for Middle East Peace Summit Jericho, Palestine | November 15-17, 2024
Christians of all backgrounds from the Holy Land and the international community are invited to come together to participate in this important summit elevating the voices of women committed to pursuing peace. We anticipate around 100-200 people to attend.
The precursor to this event was the Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP) 2018 annual advocacy summit that was held in June 2018 in Washington D.C., with a diverse delegation of women from the Middle East who are involved in peacebuilding. It was titled: And Still We Rise: Transforming US Policy for a Just Middle East.
And Still We Rise 2024 seeks to support the convening and elevation of Palestinian women leaders, with a focus on potential topics like:
Women in peacebuilding
Ecumenical unity among Palestinian Christians
Principles of gender justice in the local context
How to advocate and support an end to the occupation of the Palestinian people
The sustainability of the Christian presence in the Holy Land
Acts of solidarity and advocacy that internationals can take to support the Christian community
Extremism in the Middle East and the effects on minority communities in Iraq and the wider Arab world
The event will begin with a one-day pre-summit for local and international attendees; women and men are welcome on day one. It will feature female speakers but also be open to male speakers who are champions of women’s human rights.
Days two and three will be a summit that is open to women only, both the local multi-faith audience and internationals. These days will solely feature female speakers.
The event will be held in the city of Jericho, in the West Bank. We hope to have a significant amount of people coming from North America.
We would be honored to have you join us for this event!
