Prayers for Impact: Holy Land

Organization Highlight: Evangelicals for Social Action (ESA) – Impact: Holy Land Conference

ESA is convening a conversation—Impact: Holy Land—in Philadelphia, Penn., on December 4-6, 2013, to hear from Jesus followers around the world on what we can do to foster peace with justice in the Holy Land. Many are seeking to have a positive “impact” on the area—for all the populations living there.

At Impact: Holy Land, we will gather to listen well to the diverse stories and perspectives of Palestinian Christians, Christian Zionists, Messianic Jews, and other followers of Jesus. All of these perspectives reflect serious engagement with scriptural texts and political realities in lands that carry deep meaning for our faith. The event will culminate at the altar, where we will share in the body and blood of Christ together in Holy Communion.

ESA is not seeking to solve the Israeli/Palestinian conflict but to convene a conversation where diverse brothers and sisters in Christ—Palestinian, Jewish, Arab, Israeli, North American—can share honestly and lovingly in a space where their perspectives are respected.

We invite you to join us in prayer:

  1. For the Impact Holy Land Conference
  2. For safe travels for people traveling to Philadelphia from the Holy Land and around the United States
  3. For honest and loving dialogue during the gathering in December between American, Jewish, Arab, Israeli, and Palestinian Christians
  4. For Christians to be constructive agents of peace in the Holy Land and around the world

Merciful God,
Grant us grace in abundance.
The land of our Lord’s life and ministry is filled with violence, fear, and want.
As followers of Jesus Christ, we wish to come together for good and for your glory.
Grant us mercy as we share our pains, fears, and aspirations, that we may listen and better understand our brothers and sisters in
Christ, while we pursue peace, justice, and restoration.
May the walls that divide be turned, becoming a table by which we seek communion with one another, and with you.
In this spirit of unity, we pray together the prayer of humble access:
We do not presume to come to this thy table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your abundant mercy. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your table. But you are the same Lord whose eternal nature is to have mercy. Grant us therefore, gracious Lord, that we may eat the flesh of thy dear Son Jesus Christ, and to drink his blood, that we may continually dwell in him, and he in us.
