Naila and the Uprising: A Film Screening and Discussion with Just Vision’s Suhad Babaa

June 19, 2018 @ 11:00 pm - June 20, 2018 @ 1:30 am

Join us for this exciting event after the culmination of our National Advocacy Summit And Still We Rise: Transforming U.S. Policy Toward a Just Middle East. For more information or to register, visit our Summit website here.

First Intifafa Demonstrations

When a nation-wide uprising breaks out in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, a young woman in Gaza must make a choice between love, family, and freedom. Undaunted, she embraces all three, joining a clandestine network of women in a movement that forces the world to recognize the Palestinian right to self-determination for the first time. Naila and the Uprising chronicles the remarkable journey of Naila Ayesh and a fierce community of women at the frontlines, whose stories weave through the most vibrant, nonviolent mobilization in Palestinian history – the First Intifada in the late 1980s. While most images of the First Intifada paint an incomplete picture of stone-throwing young men front and center, this film tells the story that history overlooked – of an unbending, nonviolent women’s movement at the head of Palestine’s struggle for freedom.

Join us for a special screening of Naila and the Uprising (76 min), a new documentary from Just Vision, the award-winning team behind Budrus, My Neighbourhood and Encounter Point. The film will be followed by a post-screening conversation between Suhad Babaa, Executive Director of Just Vision and Executive Producer of Naila and the Uprising, and Rev. Dr. Mae Elise Cannon, Executive Director of Churches for Middle East Peace.
